WHAT ARE HIGH QUALITY PROBIOTICS?

OnlyGoodDog™ was created by the Swedish scientific research company Animal Probiotics AB and is based on Dr. Lönners 5 quality criteria:

1

Isolated from dogs for dogs.

2

Safe to consume.

3

Guaranteed high number of living bacteria in the product.

4

Survive the journey through the stomach down to the intestines and be active there.

5

Proven positive health effect.

1

Animal Probiotics – Isolated from the species of animal it is intended for.

Bacteria have an ability to adapt to new environments. Because of that, they develop characteristics that allow them to compete the best. This also applies to the bacteria that are found naturally in the intestine of animals and humans. The bacteria develop unique properties depending on the environment in which they find themselves.

This means that it is a great advantage that the probiotic bacteria to be consumed by dogs originate from a dog's intestine, a horse from a horse's intestine and a cat from a cat's intestine, as the probiotic bacteria are adapted to the intestinal flora of the respective animal species.

2

Safe to consume.

Both animals and humans consume live bacteria on a daily basis. These bacteria are found on paws/hands or in the food we eat. If "bad" bacteria are consumed in excessive amounts, there is a risk that this will lead to health problems. Good hygiene is therefore important!

Safe consumption of probiotics means that all individuals should be able to consume probiotics without health risk, even those with, for example, a weakened immune system. It is also important that the probiotics do not contain any bacterial strains that can give rise to the spread of antibiotic resistance.

3

Guaranteed high number of living bacteria in the product.

An important quality criteria for our animal probiotics is that it contains a high number of live bacteria per dose until the product's stated best before date.

During storage, the number of live bacteria in a probiotic product decreases. It can depend on temperature and oxygen and moisture. In order to guarantee a high live count in the product until the specified best before date, these parameters must be checked.

4

Survive the journey through the stomach down to the intestines and be active there.

The probiotic bacteria are exposed to many stresses during its journey down to the intestine. The acidic environment in the stomach as well as bile acids and enzymes from the pancreas means that many bacteria, good and bad, do not survive all the way. There are exceptions, however, and the first bacteria that began to be used in food production precisely because of its good ability to survive this journey was Lactobacillus acidophilus, which today is mainly found in fermented dairy products.

In order to have a long-term positive effect on the intestinal flora, it is necessary that the bacteria can establish themselves in the intestine. By attaching the bacteria to the intestinal mucosa, it can extend its stay in the intestine, more good bacteria can be produced and the function of the intestine is positively affected. This important adhesion property is possessed, for example, by the bacterium Lactobacillus plantarum PC213 in the dog's intestinal tract and Lactobacillus plantarum JI:1 in the horse's intestinal tract. It is important that this specific bacterial property is checked with each new production of the probiotic product, so that it is guaranteed to remain with the bacteria.

5

Proven positive health effect.

Probiotics means: "live microorganisms which, when ingested in sufficiently high numbers, have scientifically proven positive health effects on the intended animal species". Studies must have been carried out on the animal species for which the product is intended and with the dosage of the probiotic bacteria recommended for the product in question.
